Join us Thursday September 24 to enjoy an evening of music and storytelling. Keith Alessi performs a solo show telling his personal story. Presented by the Swift Current Arts Council, Tomatoes Tried To Kill Me But Banjos Saved My Life will warm your heart and entertain. Plus all proceeds will be donated to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation.
About the Show
Synopsis
An award winning, inspirational true story that has been performed over 400 times. Sold out run in Edinburgh (2023 & 2024), Pick of the Fringe Edinburgh (2023) Selected as 1 of the 18 Best Fringe Shows worldwide in 2019, it was awarded a run Off-Broadway in New York City and sold it out.
At the heart of this unique show is Keith Alessi, a once well-known CEO running a company in Canada. The story is one of his remarkable life journey was his life was turned upside down by a life-threatening cancer diagnosis. This pivotal moment led him to embrace his long-deferred passion for playing the banjo, a decision that not only offered him a therapeutic outlet but also a new purpose in life. He ultimately found physical and emotional healing in a circle of musicians, and this shows tells that story. His journey, which unfolds on stage, was a highly improbable one and is a powerful testament to the healing virtues of the arts and the resilience of the human spirit.
What was intended to be a single fringe festival appearance in 2018 has turned into several international tours across Canada, the USA the UK and Australia. His story of perseverance and survival has captivated audiences worldwide. The show’s international journey has been nothing short of phenomenal. After its initial debut, what was intended to be a one-time performance at a fringe festival evolved into a series of international tours, captivating audiences across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Its success is a reflection of its universal appeal and the profound impact of Alessi’s story of survival and transformation.
This true story about the healing power of the arts is told with warmth, humour and banjo music!

2025 Radiothon for Healthcare
2025 RADIOTHON
FOR HEALTHCARE
Presented by Pharmasave Raises $123,440
It may have been just shy of their $150,000 goal, but raising close to $125,000 in two days is being considered a win for the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation.
This years’ proceeds of $123,440.00 from the Radiothon for Healthcare presented by Pharmasave, are slated to the women & children’s unit at Cypress Regional Hospital to purchase a wireless fetal monitor, an incubator & bili light, a new blanket warmer & sleeper chairs.
Over the two days, listeners were treated to stories & interviews, chances at prizes for donating and performances from local talent. For the third year in a row, the radiothon was hosted at the beautiful Elmwood Golf Course Clubhouse, which makes for a perfect venue for space and foot traffic. This year also saw the return of Donut Days with the famous Living Sky Casino donuts. Over the two days, over 50 dozen donuts were sold to residents and businesses, with proceeds going towards the overall goal.
“We can't thank the donors, the sponsors, the supporters enough for contributing to two awesome days of our radiothon," said Kris Johnson, Executive Director of the DNIF.
It’s not too late to contribute to the $150,000 goal!
"I think Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan will come forward for us," Johnson said. "We'll be able to reach that goal and purchase the equipment for the women's and children's unit."
